I’m Marianne Amirian Hyldgaard, a self-taught abstract artist based in Copenhagen.

Creativity has always been a part of my life. I’ve worked in the creative industry, been a dancer, a DJ, and have always been drawn to visual expression in one way or another. But I never planned on becoming a painter.

Painting came into my life after becoming a mother of two. During a time where everything was changing, I felt a strong need to create again. What started as curiosity quickly became something I couldn’t stop doing.

I don’t sketch or plan my paintings. I work instinctively, building each piece layer by layer and responding to what happens on the canvas. For me, painting isn’t about having a clear idea from the beginning - it’s about trusting the process and seeing where it leads.

My work is inspired by transformation, hope, light, and the balance between chaos and calm. Through abstraction, I explore thoughts and emotions that are often difficult to put into words.

Today, I live and work in Copenhagen, continuing to develop a visual language.

A journey of transformation

What started as an unexpected urge to make something turned into a way of working that’s guided by instinct rather than rules. My paintings build up layer by layer, following feeling, movement and whatever wants to happen next.
